Vietnam to host two ASEAN insurance meetings

The 26th ASEAN Insurance Regulators’ Meeting (AIRM 26) and the 49th ASEAN Insurance Council Meeting (AIC 49) will be held in northern Quang Ninh province from December 5 to 8, with the theme “Resilience, Inclusion, and Interconnection”.

The two meetings are expected to host some 150 delegates representing insurance regulatory agencies and businesses from the ten ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ASEAN Insurance Training and Research Institute (AITRI).

As part of meetings involving the ASEAN Finance Ministers’ Meeting (AFMM) and ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM), the ASEAN insurance cooperation process encompasses activities and related events of ASEAN insurance regulatory agencies and insurance businesses within the bloc.

The AIRM is the annual gathering of ASEAN insurance regulatory agencies. The regulatory agencies of member countries’ take turns alphabetically each year hosting the meetings, with the head of the host country’s regulatory agency acting as Chairman.

The AIC, meanwhile, is a meeting of insurance businesses and held concurrently with the AIRM meeting and chaired by the host country’s insurance association.

During AIRM26, the ASEAN Secretariat and representatives of specialized ASEAN committees will provide updates and present summaries of the conference’s outcomes and directives at the AFMM and the AFMGM, guiding implementation by member countries’ regulatory agencies.

At AIC49, AIC representatives will present the results of activities, including the outcomes of the ASEAN Insurance Education Committee (AIEC) taskforce meeting, the meeting of the ASEAN National Agencies Council on implementing the Charter of Business (COB), the ASEAN Natural Disaster Research Group (ANDREWS) meeting, selection of the Young ASEAN Insurance Managers Award (YAMA), and various other taskforce meetings.

Based on conference content, during the plenary session, the AIRM Chairman and AIC Chairman will announce the results of AIRM 26 and AIC 49. Insurance regulatory agencies and insurance businesses will engage in discussions to determine the direction of insurance development in each country and the ASEAN region. The results and collaborative content will be reported to the ASEAN Finance Ministers’ Meeting for consolidation and evaluation.
