The combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G networks is ushering in a new era for the digital economy in Vietnam.

With support from the Government and technology companies, AI and 5G are not only improving operational efficiency but also creating many opportunities for innovation in various fields, from e-commerce, healthcare, and transportation to smart agriculture.

According to research by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the synergy between AI and 5G promises to revolutionize many industries by enhancing connectivity, speed, and intelligent data processing. A report from Intel also emphasizes that these are the two breakthrough technologies of this decade, which, when combined, will create a powerful ecosystem, changing the way we live and work.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Huy, Head of Digital Transformation at MobiFone Corporation, AI and 5G will be a key for businesses to make significant breakthroughs, thus enabling Vietnam to become a pioneer in digital transformation.

Besides the business sector, the Government is also promoting the application of AI and 5G in State management activities.

According to the Government AI Readiness Index, Vietnam ranks 59th in the world in terms of AI readiness, surpassing the global average. In particular, Vietnam has risen to 5th place in the ASEAN region, only behind Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Although AI and 5G bring enormous benefits, integrating these two technologies also poses many challenges. According to forecasts by ABI Research, the combination of AI and 5G will bring $17.9 trillion to the global economy by 2035, or 9.7% of global GDP. To achieve this potential, businesses and governments need to invest heavily in telecommunications infrastructure, Big Data, and network security.

According to Mr. Hoang Hung Hai, Director of Technology at Qualcomm Vietnam, AI and 5G can create unexpected results, such as promoting intelligent production lines and supporting new creative industries. However, to maximize the potential of these two technologies, close cooperation is needed between the government, telecommunications companies, AI experts, and IoT development units.
