Expanded Tho Xuan Airport Terminal opens after major renovation
The airport had a design capacity of 1.2 million passengers per year, however, by 2022, passenger throughput had already reached nearly 1.6 million.

The renovation and expansion project for the passenger terminal at Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa province has been completed, with an usable area increased, and check-in counters, security screening zones, and technical systems expanded.
The original passenger terminal at Tho Xuan Airport was commissioned in 2016 with a design capacity of 1.2 million passengers per year, with the potential for future expansion to 2 million. However, by 2022, passenger throughput had already reached nearly 1.6 million, surpassing its design capacity by 400,000 and leading to frequent overcrowding during peak seasons.
Under the direction of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and with the approval of relevant authorities, the terminal renovation project officially commenced on March 28, 2025.
The project focused on upgrading and expanding key areas, including check-in facilities, security screening, the baggage claim area, technical systems, and other passenger service infrastructure. The upgraded terminal was completed and became fully operational on June 30, 2025.
The project's completion enhances the airport's service capacity, meets the region's growing travel demands, and significantly improves the quality of service for passengers.
