Under Resolution No. 01/2025/NQ-CP issued on June 1 by the Government, Phu Quoc International Airport on the island of the same name in the Mekong Delta’s Kien Giang province will be expanded to serve the Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Week in 2027.
The project is set to be carried out under an investment – business model in line with the Law on Investment.
The Government assigned the People’s Committee of the province to select domestic investors and operate the expansion project. The expansion must accommodate the airport's dual-use functions, serving both civilian and military purposes.
According to a Master Plan for upgrading Phu Quoc International Airport for the period 2021–2030, with a vision toward 2050, the airport is set to meet ICAO Level 4E standards, and will accommodate approximately 10 million passengers and 25,000 tons of cargo annually by 2030.
