"No Time to Lose": DPM Ha Drives Electric Pole Production for Power Project
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha urges Vietnamese firms to accelerate production of electric poles for the 500 kV Circuit 3 line project to meet its June 2024 completion deadline.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on April 25 visited a number of businesses manufacturing, supplying and installing electric poles for the project as Vietnam is pushing ahead with the urgent construction of its 500 kV Circuit 3 line, a critical power transmission project.
During the visit, DPM Ha emphasized the need for firms to complete their contracts as soon as possible and highlighted areas where the government can assist in expediting the process.
The 500 kV Circuit 3 line project is a vital infrastructure upgrade for Vietnam's power grid. With a total length of 450 kilometers, it will transmit electricity from the Quang Trach power plant in central Vietnam to the Pho Noi substation in the north.
The project is scheduled for completion in June 2024, and any delays could have significant repercussions for the country's power supply.
A major hurdle for the project is the tight deadline. To address this, DPM Ha called on businesses to ramp up production by investing in additional machinery, recruiting more workers, and implementing 3-shift work schedules.
He also proposed that qualified subcontractors be brought in to assist overloaded contractors.
Streamlining procedures
Another challenge is the time-consuming process of testing and approving electric pole designs. DPM Ha suggested that this step could be potentially waived for companies with a proven track record of quality and adherence to safety standards. This would free up valuable time and resources for manufacturers, he said.
The Vietnamese government is committed to providing financial and logistical support to firms involved in the project. The DPM urged relevant ministries to work with commercial banks to facilitate access to capital for manufacturers. Additionally, he advocated for streamlining customs procedures to expedite the import of essential materials.
While emphasizing the importance of meeting deadlines, Ha also stressed the need to prioritize safety and quality. He urged businesses to strictly adhere to established quality control protocols and to learn from past experiences to continuously improve construction processes.
The expedited construction of the 500 kV Circuit 3 line project underscores Vietnam's dedication to enhancing its power infrastructure, given the pressing need to meet the escalating demand as summer approaches.
The project's success hinges on the ability of Vietnamese firms to ramp up production while maintaining safety standards. The government's support measures, including financial assistance and streamlined procedures, will be crucial in ensuring the project's timely completion.
