The expansion is under the airport's development plan for 2021-2030.

The Phu Quoc International Airport on the island of the same name in southern Kien Giang province will be upgraded to increase its capacity to serve 10 million passengers and 25,000 tons of cargo annually by 2030, following the airport’s development plan.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport to approve the airport’s development plan for 2021-2030, with a vision toward 2050.

Under the plan, the airport will be upgraded to meet 4E airport classification and Level II military airport standards.

A new terminal will be built with an estimated capacity of serving 6 million passengers per year.

By 2050, the airport will be able to handle 18 million passengers and 50,000 tons of cargo each year.
