Hanoi Adjusts Land Acquisition and Compensation Plans to Expedite Development

In a bid to accelerate the construction of Long Thanh International Airport, the Vietnamese government has approved significant adjustments to the project's land acquisition, compensation, and resettlement plan.

The move aims to streamline the process and reduce overall costs while ensuring affected residents are adequately supported.

Investment Reduction and Timeline Adjustment

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on May 10 signed Decision No. 401/QD-TTg, modifying various aspects of the existing project. Notably, the total investment has been reduced from VND 22,856 billion to VND 19,207,504 billion (approximately USD 759.2 million).

This reduction encompasses costs related to infrastructure development in resettlement areas, compensation for affected residents, and vocational training programs.

The decision also adjusts the project timeline, extending it from 2017 to the end of 2024. This extension aims to ensure the thorough completion of land acquisition and resettlement processes before the commencement of airport construction.

Land Acquisition and Resettlement Prioritized

A key focus of the adjustments is the streamlining of land acquisition and resettlement procedures.

The decision specifies the allocation of 5,000 hectares for airport construction, 284.7 hectares for the Loc An - Binh Son residential and resettlement area, and additional land for infrastructure development.

The government aims to minimize disruptions to residents' lives while ensuring their successful relocation and integration into new communities.

Government Oversight and Collaboration

The People's Committee of Dong Nai province has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the revised project plan. They are required to coordinate with relevant agencies, address any arising issues, and ensure the timely handover of land for airport construction.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Transport will provide guidance and support throughout the process.

Commitment to Transparency and Accountability

The Vietnamese government has emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability in the implementation of the Long Thanh Airport project.

Regular reports on progress, challenges, and expenditures will be submitted to the Prime Minister and relevant ministries. This approach aims to foster public trust and ensure the project's successful completion.

Dong Nai Province Takes the Lead

The Dong Nai People's Committee has been tasked with the primary responsibility of executing the adjusted project plan.

This includes coordinating with various stakeholders, obtaining necessary approvals, and managing the land acquisition and resettlement process.

The committee will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth transition of affected residents to new homes and livelihoods.

Balancing Development and Social Welfare

The Long Thanh International Airport project is a significant infrastructure development initiative for Vietnam, promising to boost economic growth and connectivity.

However, the government recognizes the importance of balancing development goals with the well-being of affected communities.

The revised project plan emphasizes fair compensation, comprehensive support services, and the creation of new economic opportunities for displaced residents.

A Future-Ready Airport

Upon completion, Long Thanh International Airport is expected to become a major aviation hub in Southeast Asia.

The airport will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and will be designed to accommodate the growing demands of both domestic and international air travel.

The project represents a significant investment in Vietnam's future and is poised to play a vital role in the country's economic development.
