Vietnam's stock market expected for upgrading this September

Vietnam has made efforts to met key requirements for its market to be upgraded to emerging market status.

The stock market of Vietnam is expected to be upgraded to emerging market status in September this year, according to Deputy Finance Minister Nguyen Duc Chi's announcement at the ministry's  press conference on July 2.

Vietnam has met key requirements for its market to be upgraded, while efforts have been made to improve the regulatory framework and market operation to ensure alignment with international standards, according to Mr. Chi.

The State Securities Commission (SSC) is working intensively with ministries and stakeholders to settle remaining issues and improve foreign investor access, a critical step ahead of the expected review in September, he said.

As planned, international credit organizations will announce the review results in September.

Mr. Pham Luu Hung, Chief Economist of SSI Research noted that it is highly possible for the stock market of Vietnam to be upgraded this October. FTSE Russell is expected to deliver positive announcement for Vietnam’s stock market on October 7.
