Northern Hai Phong city officially kicked off construction of the Ben Rung Bridge on May 13, spanning the Da Bach River and connecting the city’s Thuy Nguyen district with Quang Yen town in Quang Ninh province. Investment is from the State budget, totaling over VND1.94 trillion ($84.03 million).

Northern Hai Phong city held an Investment Promotion Conference with South Korean enterprises on April 15, which saw the participation of more than 200 investors from the country. The conference provided an opportunity for cooperation and development between the city and the South Korean business community and supported investment attraction efforts.

Northern Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province have signed an agreement with five central cities and provinces - Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam - on comprehensive cooperation to promote tourism development and links between regions in the 2022-2025 period. The agreement will create a breakthrough in tourism development in both regions.

Northern Hai Phong city has announced the auction of land use rights for an area to build a golf course and other businesses under the planning for the Doi Rong international tourist area. The land area totals about 1,358 sq m in Do Son district. The starting price is VND30.63 billion ($1.35 million).

Construction of major development project to begin in early 2022.

The Hai Phong City People’s Committee is finalizing its City Master Plan to 2040 and vision to 2050. Notable adjustments relate to the construction of Nam Do Son Port and railways, and developing the southern urban area into a modern and civilized green urban area.

The National Assembly (NA) is discussing a draft Resolution on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of cities and provinces around the country. Northern Hai Phong city and north-central Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces are allowed to decide on changes in the land-use purpose of rice-growing land under 500 ha. Nghe An and central Thua Thien-Hue province are allowed to borrow funding of up to 40 per cent of their budget revenue, and Hai Phong and Thanh Hoa up to 60 per cent.

Under a cooperation program signed recently by leaders from northern Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province, the two will become a marine economic center and a gateway and driving force for the development of key economic areas in Vietnam’s north.
