The lack of easy access to cheap bank credit has pushed up demand for capital mobilization via corporate bond issuances. Because corporate bond interest rates are still quite high compared to bank deposit rates, the bond market is forecast to continue to grow strongly in the second half of 2021.

According to the SSI Securities Company (SSI Research), Vietnam’s stock market has a positive outlook in the long term and in 2022 will remain among the most attractive.

Economic growth should pick up pace again in the third quarter of the year and the stock market will continue its upwards trend, Mr. Petri Deryng, Manager of the Finland-based hedge fund Pyn Elite, has said.

The trading system at the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) has continually encountered “order congestion” since the end of 2020 as liquidity rises sharply. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has requested an increase in the trading lot size to a minimum of ten shares and support for businesses to switch listings from the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) to HoSE.

Involved in self-trading, some securities companies have a large market share but revenue is quite small and profits are almost non-existent. Since some accept lower brokerage fees and interest rates, investors stand to benefit the most.

Vietnam’s stock market is one of the fastest growing in the world, but the high proportion of stocks in major industries makes retail investors cautious. The banking sector accounts for 34.55 per cent and real estate 21.39 per cent, for a total of 55.94 per cent; a ratio rarely found elsewhere. To enhance the durability of the market, it is important to diversify sectors. Production and business sectors associated with science and technology should be among those driving the market.
