Vietnam & Canada to establish Joint Economic Committee

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Canada’s Chief Trade Commissioner and Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs Canada Sara Wilshaw signed an MoU on January 11 establishing a Joint Economic Committee between the two countries. They aim to establish a comprehensive cooperation framework through the joint committee mechanism to facilitate trade and investment and support enterprises from both countries.

WHO Regional Director impressed by Vietnam's vaccination strategy

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Mr. Takeshi Kasai, Vietnam has contributed to supporting countries in regard to pandemic prevention and control and has made active contributions to WHO and the COVAX mechanism. Thanks to the success of its vaccine strategy, it has become among the six leading countries in vaccine coverage in the world. At the moment, 99.98 per cent of its population aged 18 years and over has received at least one dose of vaccine, while 93.6 per cent has had the full basic dose and 11.5 per cent has had the booster dose.

On January 8, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh on an official visit to Vietnam. The two sides focused on exchanging measures to raise economic cooperation and promote links between the two economies, including infrastructure links and logistics development.

40% of economic recovery package to be disbursed this year

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung has told an extra-ordinary session of the National Assembly on January 7 that about 42 per cent of Vietnam’s economic recovery package will be implemented and disbursed in 2022 and the remainder next year. Vietnam to import electricity from Laos for northern region

The construction of a 220kV transmission line from Nam Mo in Laos to Tuong Duong in Vietnam's north-central Nghe An province is part of an agreement signed by the two governments, under which Vietnam will import about 3,000 MW of electricity from Laos by 2025 and up to 5,000 MW by 2030. The new transmission line is expected to supply northern Vietnam.
