Trade in the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector reached $31.8 billion in the first four months of the year, up 7 per cent year-on-year. Exports were $17.9 billion, up 15.6 per cent, while imports were $13.9 billion, down 2.3 per cent. The sector therefore posted a surplus of nearly $4 billion, or 3.2 times higher than in the same period last year.

Trade turnover totaled nearly $242.2 billion in the first four months, with exports of $122.36 billion and imports $119.83 billion. Trade was therefore in surplus during the period, to the tune of $2.53 billion, or nearly double the surplus posted in the same period last year.

According to figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, imports and exports totaled $176.75 billion in the first quarter of 2022, up 14.3 per cent year-on-year, of which exports were $89.1 billion, up 13.4 per cent, and imports $87.64 billion, up 15.2 per cent. Vietnam therefore posted a trade surplus of $1.46 billion.

In the first half of March, from March 1 to March 15, Vietnam’s exports reached $15.32 billion, up 5.6 per cent compared to the second half of February. Trade was in surplus in the period, by $93 million. From the beginning of the year to March 15, however, trade was in deficit by $492 million.

According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the import-export value of goods in January was $60.29 billion, a 9.6 per cent increase year-on-year. Exports totaled $30.84 billion and imports $29.45 billion. Vietnam therefore posted a trade surplus of nearly $1.4 billion in the month.
