Over 140,000 cases of smuggling and trade fraud uncovered in 2022

Relevant forces around the country uncovered nearly 140,000 cases of smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeit goods in 2022, according to a report from the National Steering Committee for Anti-smuggling, Counterfeit Goods, and Trade Fraud.

The figure includes over 11,900 cases of smuggling, a year-on-year fall of 17.75 per cent, 124,121 cases of tax and trade fraud, up 2.36 per cent, and 3,692 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations, a year-on-year rise of 56.51 per cent.

More than VND12.8 trillion ($542 million) was collected for the State budget, the committee reported at a meeting on February 22 to review tasks in 2022.

There were 462 cases being prosecuted.

Deputy Head of the Committee and Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc said that, in 2023, relevant ministries and agencies should strengthen communications to raise public awareness about related regulations, increase inspections, supervision, and coordination, and promote IT application to timely discover cases of smuggling, counterfeits, and trade fraud.
