Samsung & Vietnam National University partner in semiconductor training
Students to receive in-depth training in the semiconductor industry under the VNU-Samsung Technology Track (V-STT) program.
Samsung Electronics from South Korea and the University of Engineering and Technology at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, (VNU) signed a cooperation agreement on January 30 to implement the VNU-Samsung Technology Track (V-STT) program with the aim of training high-quality master’s level human resources in the fields of semiconductors and microchips. The signing saw the participation of Mr. Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam.
Under the program, students will receive in-depth training in semiconductor industry specializations, such as integrated circuit design, semiconductor materials, manufacturing, and semiconductor analysis. Target applicants are third and fourth-year undergraduate students who meet the eligibility criteria or have graduated in related fields.
Students participating in the scholarship program will not only enhance their knowledge and skills but also their language proficiency, building a solid foundation for their future careers. During the training process, students will participate in Korean language classes with a minimum TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in South Korean) Level 3 competency.
Upon graduation from the program, students will have the opportunity to work directly at Samsung in South Korea in the chip / semiconductor field.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Choi Joo Ho said Samsung has been able to become a leading semiconductor company in the world with the contribution of talented human resources from universities. It is this outstanding talent that contribute technological capabilities to Samsung, and Samsung provides opportunities for them to develop. “Based on this foundation, we are solidifying our global leadership position in the semiconductor industry,” he said. “I look forward to outstanding students from the Vietnam National University becoming future leaders in the semiconductor field through this training program.”
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of VNU Hanoi, highlighted Vietnam’s target of training 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030. He expected the signing to become a model for university-business cooperation.
The VNU-Samsung Technology Track program, with the main goal of training master’s level human resources specialized in semiconductor technology, will contribute to developing human resources in the future, meeting the increasing demand for high-quality human resources in the semiconductor and microchip field in Vietnam.
Vietnam’s semiconductor and microchip industry has developed in recent years into an important industry for the country. Vietnam currently ranks ninth globally in the field of electronics exports. According to figures from the General Statistics Office (GSO), computers, phones, and electronic components were the largest export items in 2023, reaching $110.53 billion in turnover and accounting for over 31 per cent of the country’s total export turnover. The potential for developing the semiconductor industry in Vietnam is immense, accompanied by high demand for human resources in the industry.
