Cambodia is inviting Vietnamese businesses and
investors to consider investing and operating in Cambodia across all sectors,
especially those with high potential and added value, such as: automotive,
modern agriculture, food processing, electronics, digital technology, financial
technology and services, research and development, tourism, education,
transport and logistics, creative industries, and other manufacturing sectors.
Mr. Tith Rithipol, Undersecretary of State of the
Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, made the statement at the recent
"Connecting Vietnamese - Cambodian Production, Distribution, and Logistics
Businesses" conference.
He particularly emphasized several areas where
Cambodia and Vietnam could consider closer cooperation to advance further: modernizing
cross-border trade infrastructure; strengthening logistics and transport
connectivity; and deepening cooperation within regional and multilateral
frameworks.
In 2024, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia reached approximately
over $10 billion. Since the beginning of 2025, the turnover has also
been outstanding. In this, industrial-energy goods account for the majority of
Vietnam's exports, while agricultural products constitute a large proportion of
imports from Cambodia.
To contribute to increasing bilateral trade turnover
to $20 billion by 2030, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan
Thi Thang suggested that both sides need to take stronger action, find
solutions for existing issues, and sustainably promote key areas.
Specifically, this includes linking the development of
Vietnam-Cambodia border trade infrastructure with synchronous investment in
border gate infrastructure, logistics, warehouses, and border markets; inter-industry,
inter-regional, and cross-border linkages: planning transportation - logistics
- border gates - border markets between Vietnamese provinces bordering
Cambodia.
Additionally, solutions are needed to facilitate the
development of Vietnam-Cambodia bilateral trade (trade promotion, goods
clearance, business support); and to accelerate the application of smart border
gate models to boost the export of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products
to the Cambodian market.
In particular, Deputy Minister Thang emphasized that
the potential for connecting businesses and bilateral trade between Vietnam and
Cambodia needs more attention.
