The Embassy of Japan in Vietnam on February 24 held a signing ceremony for non-refundable aid, providing $635,586 for two projects in Vietnam: bomb and mine clearance in Quang Binh province and the construction of a classroom block in Nghe An province.

According to the agreement, the bomb and mine clearance project in Quang Binh province will be implemented by the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) Vietnam, with a total grant of $503,597.

The project focuses on clearing bombs, mines, and unexploded ordnances in Quang Binh  province, aiming to convert approximately contaminated land by bomb into usable land for production and socio-economic development.

Ms. Sarah Goring, Country Director of MAG Vietnam, said that the new grant from Japan will help maintain three bomb and mine clearance teams, including one mobile explosive ordnance disposal team and two community liaison teams, aimed at educating residents on how to prevent accidents caused by unexploded ordnances left over from the war in Quang Binh  province.

In addition, the project to construct a classroom block for the Tru Son 2 Kindergarten in Do Luong district, Nghe An province, will receive a grant of $131,989, implemented by the Nghe An's Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Du, Chairman of the Nghe An's Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association, affirmed that the construction project will be implemented on schedule, ensuring quality and compliance with regulatory standards.

"Once completed, the facility will be used for its intended long-term purpose, with a maintenance and upkeep plan in place to preserve the infrastructure in optimal condition," he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki emphasized that these two projects not only contribute to ensuring safety and improving education quality but also support localities in achieving sustainable development goals.

"Japanese Government commits to continuing its partnership with Vietnam, supporting localities in improving quality of life, developing infrastructure, and ensuring social welfare," the ambassador noted.
