The National Airport System Master Plan will be adjusted under the direction of the Prime Minister, with the projected Mang Den Airport included, according to a recent announcement from the Ministry of Construction.
The Mang Den airport project is located in the former province of Kon Tum which has become part of Quang Ngai province in central Vietnam since the merger of administrative units on July 1, 2025,
After the adjusted master plan is approved, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province will coordinate with the Ministry of Construction to prepare and approve a detailed plan for the project.
The ministry stated that, based on the approved plan, Quang Ngai province can research and propose special mechanisms to maximize investment resources, serving local socio-economic development.
According to preliminary research, the proposed location for Mang Den Airport is approximately 73 km northeast of Pleiku Airport (in Gia Lai province), 105 km northwest of Phu Cat Airport (in the former province of Phu Yen, now Dak Lak), and 93 km southwest of Chu Lai Airport (in the former province of Quang Nam, now Da Nang city).
The planned area is entirely on hilly terrain with a total area of about 350 ha. Mang Den Airport is oriented to achieve Level 4C according to ICAO standards, with an estimated capacity of about 1 million passengers/year by 2030, and can be renovated and upgraded for operations exceeding capacity in later stages.
The total investment for the project is estimated at approximately VND4 trillion (nearly $152 million).
